While popular all over Italy, Sicily is in second place in the magnificience of its “Presepi” which can be found in most homes and the vast majorityof churches. The most intriguing nativity scenes on the island is the “Presepe Vivente” in Palma di Montechiaro only 20min away.
Throughout the month of Dicember until the epiphany, at Agrigento in square Piazza stazione (10mins from the villa) you can experience the magic of the Sicilian handcraft in one of the newest and most exciting Christmas markets in Italy or have a walk through “il viale” with its illuminations.

The festival in Agrigento begins with a visit to the Valley of the Temples and the lighting of the torch of friendship in front of the temple of the Concordia. At the end of the festival you can admire the Sicilian carts with musical bands that move from the city to the Valley of the Temples, while a jury elects the groups that have danced and sung best by awarding them the prize of the Gold Temple.

Sciacca and Acireale’s Carneval
Carnival celebrations in Sicily are a really ancient traditions. Every year, each Sicilian town organizes special events offering to locals and tourists vibrant and thrilling experiences.
Those celebrations have nothing to envy to best known Italian Carnivals of Venice and Viareggio and, moreover, winter in Sicily is not too cold but actually nice, that’s why visiting Sicily in winter is a wonderful holiday idea.
The time of the Carnival is surely the best to combine fun and culture, to visit breathtaking sites and live the Sicilian experience: locals are warm hearted people who love to have fun and involve tourists, making them feel like home.
The allegorical wagons wander in the main streets of Acireale and Sciacca typically Sicilian Baroque style, that animate the event with music, exhibitions, etc. The wagons are composed of colourful paper-mâché masks and they are decorated with flowers.

Easter Lamb Festival
The well known Sicilian bakery art, during special occasions, gives of its best and, at Easter, coinciding with Springtime, every banquet table or bar window, becomes a triumph of sweet delicacies.
Most of Easter cakes in Sicily come from the ancient tradition of making desserts and biscuits in monasteries and convents, as result of centuries of competence and imagination of the good nuns. Traditions that have been handed down for centuries and are still alive today.
The typical Easter sweet in Favara, in the area of Agrigento, is the Easter Lamb. It is a marzipan and pistachios paste dessert, covered with the so-called “velata” (a sugar glaze), richly decorated with small bells, silver sugar pearls, ribbons and small, red flags.
The dessert recalls the idea of Jesus as Lamb of God and dates back to the early twentieth century, when it was prepared by the nuns of the Collegio di Maria located in the district “Batia” in Favara. You can look at the preparation of this yummy dessert, and taste it of course, at Chiaramonte Castle during the Easter Lamb Festival which takes place every year during Easter Holidays.
The Picureddi (little sheeps), easily found wide-spread the island, are instead marzipan sweets shaped as sheeps, lying on their side and placed on a “green lawn” littered with colorful sprinkles.
The Raffadali Pistachio Festival
The town of Raffadali will dedicate an entire 3-day event, which will attract many tourists and lovers of this small and tasty green fruit. The Raffadali Pistachio Festival (Fastuca Fest) is also a showcase of excellence.
On these dates it will be possible to experience the culture and art of taste and authenticity, taste typical Sicilian products and attend the performances of various artists.
The Fastucafest consolidates its position among the most anticipated events in September in Western Sicily, which brings together a multitude of visitors and attracts tourists intrigued by the crops visible from the Valley of the Temples.
It is an event to be discovered, a unique party, with contagious energy, for three days the historic center of the town is transformed into a stage where food, music and art create an evocative atmosphere.

In Agrigento past and present merge: the city also offers evening entertainment, appetizers and music ad hoc to suit the tastes of each target. To visit: the archaeological park of the Valley of the Temples of Agrigento, the Regional Archaeological Museum, the Garden of Kolymbetra, the garden in the edition of 2011 was elected from among 10 finalists in the competition “The most beautiful park in Italy.”
The old town with its typical narrow streets have remained intact over the centuries, the Atenea street bordered by fine buildings, coffee, restaurants and various shops ranging from high fashion to accessories trade. Valuable interest are also the secular churches: the Cathedral, the church of Santa Maria dei Greci, the Monastery of the Holy Spirit, the church of St. Nicholas.
Last but not least, the Christmas House Museum Luigi Pirandello (Agrigento playwright, Nobel prize for literature has been devoted to which an international conference). To this was added the many landscapes in the sea and the beauty of the coast like Scala dei Turchi.
